&BEYOND GRUMETI SERENGETI TENTED CAMP, TANZANIA - ENDLESS GAME-FILLED PLAINS

Tanzania, in East Africa, is home to one of the most famous conservation areas in the world - the Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti borders the equally famed Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya and, with no fences or man-made barriers, huge numbers of wildlife move freely throughout this pristine wilderness area.

Serengeti is the Swahili word for “endless plains”, which is the perfect way to describe this magnificent 14 800 km2 (5 714 square mile) stretch of virtually tree-less, game-rich grasslands. The Park boasts 35 species of plains-dwelling game and prolific birdlife.

&Beyond Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp sits in a remote corner of the mighty Serengeti, right on the banks of a bywater of the Grumeti River. This world-renowned River is known for its wildebeest crossings and enormous Nile crocodiles.

Every year in June and July, Africa’s annual Great Migration passes through Grumeti, and hundreds upon thousands of wildebeest, zebra and other herbivores bravely cross the Grumeti River, risking the jaws of some of Africa’s largest crocodiles. While these massive beasts are among some of Africa's largest, in October visitors can watch their tiny hatchlings emerge from eggs laid in nests on the river's banks.
